Beauty: The Art of War

Description
What is beauty? Is beauty simply “in the eye of the beholder,” or is it something real and knowable? Is it necessary, or is it simply ornamental? Does it matter? This course will help you understand beauty as an objective aspect of reality and its transcendent source in God. You will learn the limitations of defining beauty while also gaining an appreciation for its mysterious effects that those definitions cannot fully explain. You will understand that although our cultural moment thinks it understands beauty, it is in fact starving for the real thing. You will be able to converse about beauty as it relates to God, to art, to Christ, and to human beings. You will see how to think creatively about how image-bearers might cultivate beauty wherever God has placed them and make important connections between our role in doing so and the already-not-yet kingdom of God.
